When we were lost in the woods, waterways are one of the important elements in finding direction. In other words, if you walk along a waterway, you can find the direction at any moment. Likewise, a factor that helps you find your way back when you are lost in the city is downtown with pedestrians. Even if you go through a complicated alleyway, if you see such a downtown area from afar, you will feel relieved that you have found the way. In addition, walking along the main connecting roads of these cities also provides a community driving force for local residents by meeting various urban spaces. In this way, it’s this connecting road that can connect the various functional spaces dispersed in the city into one. And it’s a milestone in the city and a key element of the architectural plan that spreads from it. The five tour programs, such as the Tourist Information Center, the Ysabu Memorial Hall, the Dokdo Experience Space, the Cultural and Art Village, and the Park, were connected through a circular gallery and the entire site was utilized. Especially, the park is connected with Mt. Yukhyang located in the center of the site, and the green space is actively created in the site. Also, by organically linking it with the given program and circulation gallery, it is easily accessible from various directions. First of all, the Tourist Information Center was placed in the entrance section of the site in terms of its program function, and the circulation type plan was planned so that it could naturally lead to the Memorial Hall and the Experience Space, the existing building and the street of the Culture and Arts Village. In addition, the parking lot was separated from the pedestrian’s line by adjoining the Tourist Information Center. In order to improve the quality of the walking environment, ordinary vehicles except for the emergency vehicles and the transportation vehicles were prevented from entering the site. The Tourist Information Center includes facilities for providing tourist information and a childcare center. And it’s designed as building that enables organically linking the museum of Yisabu, a general where visitors can experience visual and stereoscopic space and the experience center where various activities such as education, experience, and performance can take place. In particular, the Memorial Hall is structured to enable exhibition according to historical storytelling and adaptable to the changing situation. The Experience Space is composed of audiovisual materials and models to induce interest and participation of spectator. The Cultural and Arts Villages in the old residential area coexist with old aging facilities. But as a way to secure independence, they are planned to be used as artist’s studio and guesthouses. In addition, the park was able to relax, take a walk, perform activities such as performances and events, and organize all programs, including Mt. Yukhyang in consideration of the symbolism of the East Sea.
